Event Information: Will Swales, 'Insights into the study of place-names in Swaledale and Arkengarthdale'

Investigating place-name clues to 2,000 years of language development in the two dales - from the unknown tongue of the Britons, to the voices of Angles, and then of Norwegians influenced by Irish Gaelic, and possible further ingredients of Old Danish, Old Welsh, Old Scots and Scots Gaelic.
Little wonder that a Richmond newspaper editor writing in 1873 described Harkerside farmers giving evidence in the town court as speaking 'such a specimen of Swaledale dialect as I fancy was never before heard.'

Anna Greenwood gathers stories, images and the spoken word predominantly in the Yorkshire dales, and further afield as her travels take her. Traditional tales, stories and rural crafts, mainly among farming communities in rural parts of Yorkshire and the Dales. Tales from the older generation, recording a slower way of life that is rapidly disappearing.

Event Information: 1990s Celtic Rock Band `Gaelforce` are back. They are now a four piece with fiddle, electric guitar, bass, drums & vocals, playing rocked up Trad Irish songs & tunes (jig and reels) as well as self-composed songs. Gaelforce are somewhere between Jethro Tull & Fairport Convention!
